Vacation at Indianapolis: The Circle City
Indianapolis, the capital city of the state of Indiana is also known as The Circle City, the Racing Capital of the World and Naptown. Founded in the year 1821, the city has some mind-blowing attractions to explore. The city has total 368.2 square miles of area, out of which 361.5 square miles is of land and only 6.7 square miles of area are covered by water. The city lies in the Central Till Plains region in the United States where two natural waterways dissects the city – they are the White River and Fall Creek.
Indianapolis is the capital city of the United States’ state of Indiana and is also the county seat of Marion County, Indiana. Also it is the largest city of Indiana and is the second most densely inhabited state capital. As I stay in United States, I thought to visit there this time and make some good time by clicking some brilliant pictures of the city, and memorize it forever. So here are the highlights, what I feel is great in Indianapolis. Well, the city’s Motor Speedway is a home to the Indianapolis 500 and Allstate 400 auto races. And do you know that Indy 500 is the major single say sporting event in the entire world?
The city has many largest things to explore. Now take example of the Indianapolis Childrens Museum. This is again the largest museum for children’s in the world, and is just breathtaking. My daughter always loves to be here repeatedly, and this is one of the reasons why I come to Indianapolis. Truly, this is a must visit site. Few other museums that increase the glory of the city are State Museum, the Art Museum, the Eiteljorg Museum, the NCAA Museum, and yes, I cannot resist by taking the name of Motor Speedway Museum.
When you come to Indianapolis, you should not miss to visit the Monument Circle, particularly during the Christmas time. This will increase your interest to explore the other attractions of the city. Also, make some time to check out the cultural districts like Broad Ripple, Mass. Ave., Indiana Ave., and the White River Park or the Canal area. Visiting the White River Park will fascinate you a lot, as it includes the zoo and gardens as well. I love enjoying the festivals and when it comes about this city, which is also popular for various events, I couldn’t stay back. Some well-known events that held in Indianapolis are the Jazz Festival, The Circle City Classic football game, the Indianapolis Tennis Championships, Indiana Black Expo and the Gen-Con role playing game convention. Oh! How can I forget my favorite event that is 500 Mini-Marathon, where people need to cover a lap around the Motor Speedway.
Those who love sports should rush here first, as the city are sports fanatics, chiefly for the 2007 Champion Indianapolis Colts. The Indians stadium, which is called as the Victory Field has been renowned as among the nicest minor league parks on USA. And yes, you cannot forget the Indiana Fever women’s basketball team at all! The newly opened Conseco Fieldhouse, which was opened in the year 1999, houses the Indiana Pacers and is a venue for concerts. Now what to say about the Formula 1 race in the USA? It has been discontinued, but I hope will be back soon in future.
To get out of the town there are many major interstate highways that run throughout the city. This makes traveling easy. The highways will lead you to St. Louis, Columbus, Peoria, Cincinnati, Chicago, Louisville and Michigan. So make sure which highway you select. The city enjoys humid continental climate. Those who want to explore the major attractions of the city must see the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument, which is of 284 foot tall and is located at the center of Indianapolis.
Even though, the city is popular for sports but culturally, and from various aspect it has gained popularity. Also the city is among the well-liked travel destinations in the world. The city welcomes tourists from all over the world and offers spectacular parks, museums, festivals, arts and entertainment, various places of interest, monuments and structures, heritage and history attractions and many others. I really love this place that has everything for everyone. So if you are planning a vacation to this place do not miss out anything to explore.
