Kuala Lumpur is not just a spot on the globe but capital of Malaysia. It is a fast developing country, far developed than many of the countries in South-east Asia Kuala Lumpur or KL, as it is commonly known, aims to become Singapore some day. KL till date is the largest city in Malaysia. The population of KL that is estimated around 2 millions live on the area of around 244 km2. Greater Kuala Lumpur, commonly known as the Klang Valley, is an urban crowd of around 7.2 million. It is a metropolitan city which is growing in term of population as well as economy. The original name of KL is Pengkalan Lumpur which means which means bundle of mud. As time changed it was named Kuala Lumpur which literally means “muddy confluence”. The huge valley in KL called Klang Valley is one of the characteristic of KL.Previously Kuala Lumpur was under the rule of Selangor State Government. Later, in 1974, it was separated from Selangor and formed the first Federal Territory which was directly governed by the Malaysian Federal Government.

Bahasa Melayu is the national language of Kuala Lumpur. Other major languages spoken in the city are Cantonese, Mandarin, and Tamil and English. Kuala Lumpur can be stated as a melting pot of all cultures since here people from all sort of cultural background namely Malays, Chinese, Indians, Eurasians Kadazans, Ibans are found. The rapid development of KL influenced foreign workers from Indonesia, Nepal, Burma, Thailand, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam into Malaysia. Primarily in KL Islam is practiced by the Malays and the Indian Muslim communities. Other major religions are Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism and Christianity.

The cultural variation can be stated as major tourist attraction as there is something or other for everyone. At a point of time you will find yourself burning joss sticks at a Chinese temple, the next time you would be your shoe to enter a mosque or Hindu Temple. Tourism is the major plays an important role in the nation’s economy. It helps not only in making money but also providing income, employment and expanding business opportunities. KL has a number of high-end malls which provides local as well as international brands. Kuala Lumpur itself has nearly 66 shopping malls.

There are many tourist attractions in Kuala Lumpur few of them are Dataran Merdeka (the Indepedence Square), the House of Parliament, the Istana Budaya, the Istana Negara (National Palace), the Kuala Lumpur Tower, the Muzium Negara (National Museum), the Putra World Trade Centre, the Tugu Negara (National Monument) and mosques such as the Masjid Jamek, the Masjid Negara (National Mosque) and the Federal Territory Mosque. Other tourist attractions include the Aquaria KLCC, the Batu Caves, the Makam Pahlawan (National Mausoleum), the National Science Centre, Petaling Street, the Royal Selangor Pewter Visitor Centre, the Zoo Negara (National Zoo). Petronas Towers the tallest building in the world is located in Kuala Lumpur which is worth a look.
