The pearl of Asia Phnom Penh was once called the jewel of Indochina. Though the city has a harsh history the city has always been successful in retaining its quality. The diet of people Cambodia mostly consists of soups, noodles and tropical fruits. The most important ingredients in Cambodian food are kaffir lime, lemon grass, garlic, , soy sauce, tamarind, curry, ginger, oyster sauce, coconut milk, black pepper, fish sauce etc.

The most preserved monument from the Khmer empire which depicts the Khmer history is the Angkor Wat with means city temple. The Khmer locals used to write important information on Tra leaf for future reference. To protect the Tra leaf books from the moisture and the jungle climate it is wrapped in the cloth and good care of the book is taken. You can come across various tar leaf books having information such as the origin of Buddhism, the Khmer people, the Ramayana etc.

It is not easy to believe the energy the city posses. The city had suffered a cruel hardship for about 30 years even then it has been successful in making a mark for itself. As a visitor you should never have an impression that the locals are very shy people. They will definitely offer you a small little smile. Avoiding taking pictures of the locals as the Cambodian culture is not regular with the customs of taking picture, so do respect their culture.
