Life Of People Of Phnom Penh

The pearl of Asia Phnom Penh was once called the jewel of Indochina. Though the city has a harsh history the city has always been successful in retaining its quality. It is mite possible that you could be taken aback by the stern nature of the city but many tourist seriously fall in love with the city for its rawness, the night cafes beside the river, the extremely wonderful architecture and the holy wats which are scattered all across the city. The city is quite elegant in its own kind and it does not possess fast lives which are found in many other Asian countries capitals.

Phnom Penh has a style or itself. It has rules of its own. The city is divided in many parts and the various parts to your surprise is not named but numbered that too in grid fashion. Here you will come across Street 17, Street 104 and so on. These streets are meant for the tourists to ride their bikes, feel the calm river, get to the wats, have some food or simply have a sip of coffee. cambodian cultureLater you can always enjoy a day and visit the Royal Palace and later just walk to the Silver Pagoda. You can never avoid the gruesome history of the city thus you can connect to the city by visiting the Tuol Sleng museum.

The Hinduism, Buddhism, Theravada, French Colonialism any many other such culture come together to form the Cambodian culture. The Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts plays an important role in not only the promotion but also the development of the Cambodian Culture. Cambodian culture also includes the cultures of various ethnic groups such as Khmer, Norodom, and Sihanouk. The karma scarf is worn by the rural Cambodians.
Bonn Om Touk Attended by nearly about 10% population the national festival of Cambodia is Bonn Om teuk which is nothing but an annual boat racing competition. The festival takes places every year at the end of rainy season.

The diet of people Cambodia mostly consists of soups, noodles and tropical fruits. The most important ingredients in Cambodian food are kaffir lime, lemon grass, garlic, , soy sauce, tamarind, curry, ginger, oyster sauce, coconut milk, black pepper, fish sauce etc.

cambodian foodThe most preserved monument from the Khmer empire which depicts the Khmer history is the Angkor Wat with means city temple. The Khmer locals used to write important information on Tra leaf for future reference. To protect the Tra leaf books from the moisture and the jungle climate it is wrapped in the cloth and good care of the book is taken. You can come across various tar leaf books having information such as the origin of Buddhism, the Khmer people, the Ramayana etc.

It is not easy to believe the energy the city posses. The city had suffered a cruel hardship for about 30 years even then it has been successful in making a mark for itself. As a visitor you should never have an impression that the locals are very shy people. They will definitely offer you a small little smile. Avoiding taking pictures of the locals as the Cambodian culture is not regular with the customs of taking picture, so do respect their culture.
