Exquisite Bogota

With its outstanding museums, splendid churches, glorious festival, Bogota is providing you the best reasons to be there. Formerly known as Santa Fe de Bogotá, the city will leave no stone unturned in introducing you with culture of the metropolis of South America.

The city also recognized as Bogota, DC is a capital city of Columbia and the most populous city in the country with its population up to seven million people Once in Columbia and not visiting to Bogota is like not drinking water after getting lunch. Till several years back, visiting Bogota was not a very good idea due to the lax in the security system.  However, it is now a thing of past as the security has been enhanced in the late 90’s with “people first” urban planning strategy ‘, and it definitely lets one to roam around any part of the city freely.

It is continuously progressing its steps towards development; Colombians are still rushing to the city for better prospects. The city by developing its transport and altering all the previous loopholes has become the most important urban centre of the country.

Along with being financial as well as political center of the country, Bogotá is also full of parks and leisure spots. As per the history, during its foundation the city possessed 12 huts and a chapel. In the early years during the early it was governed by Santo Domingo and in 1950 Lima ruled it. In 1717, it became capital of the Virreynato de la Nueva Granada. Colombia’s largest economic center and the center of Colombian business, the city has the biggest industrial facilities in the country and also houses the central government instituitions. The city is also largest in the terms of land area.

Originally called “Bacatá”, the city is also known as ‘The Athens of South America’, due to existence of many bogota librariesuniversities and libraries. Saint Thomas Aquinas University- the very first university- was founded on July 13, 1580. Whereas, the largest university of the city namely Universidad Nacional de Colombia, came into existence in the year 1867. other recognized universities are Pontifical Xavierian University, Our Lady of the Rosary University, University of the Andes, and Universidad Externado de Colombia.

Geographically, the city is situated near the geographic center of Columbia. It is located in the place popularly called the “sabana” .Throughout the year, the rainy and dry season alternates and the monsoon season is observed in from April to November, except month of August as the month remains sunny taking along the high winds. On the other hand the driest months are December, January, February and March with air stream. The city contains 20 localities out of which, the middle class neighborhoods are located in the central, western and north-western and poorer neighborhoods contain south and south east sections of the city. The airports present in the city are El Dorado International Airport, El Dorado and Catam.
