Cultural View Of Bangkok

The origin of Bangkok is found to be long back many centuries. According to the archeological studies the human habitants had started living there from the last 4000 years. During medieval times monarchy played a very important role in Bangkok’s history. Today Bangkok is a part of one of the successful democratic country.

The people of Bangkok are very-much friendly, warm, polite etc. But it should be remembered that as a state it does have its own boundary which should not be crossed by anyone be it’s the Bangkok citizen or a national or international tourist. The people of Bangkok are very much proud of their monarchy and it is requested to the tourist to respect their royal issues. The Buddhist religion which is followed by 90% of Bangkok residents is considered as the most sacred religion in Bangkok. Everywhere around the city you will find Monks, temples and Buddha images which are very much respected by Bangkok residents. It is expected by the locals as well as the tourist that a proper dressing should be maintained while going to the temple and also shoes to be removed where required in and around the temple area.

For Bangkok residents maintenance of peace and harmony is utmost important. The local mostly avoid getting into argument, losing their temper or direct criticism as they believe that hardly a little purpose is served by this. For both greeting and respect the famous ‘wai’ is a used as a gesture. Wai is use both of the person’s hands as if he is praying to be held in front of his face. Generally it is the culture of Bangkok to hold their head low in front of senior or elder person while talking to them as a mark of respect. According to Bangkok’s culture it is required to remove the shoes while entering the private rooms in the house. ‘Khun’ and the person’s name are used while talking or addressing to an individual of the same age group.

The people of Bangkok give lots of importance to the looks and appearance of the individuals. So nest time you are about to visit Bangkok or met a Bangkok citizen remember to dress smartly and be polite and show some respect.

Across the city you will definitely find tradition dance and theater groups performing. These groups are popular with the tourist than to the locals. Bangkok Symphony Orchestra is the city’s own orchestra. On every month’s last Friday and Saturday Classical dramas are played at National Theatre. These dramas are very much colorful and expressive. At Thailand Cultural centre both Thai and international cultural performances, including classical music, dance, ballet and pop concerts, are frequently held. In the Asia Hotel on Phayathai Road fomous ‘ladyboys’ or ‘katoeys of Bangkok’, perform twice every night at Calypso Cabaret.
