Adventures at Matheran Hill Station
Matheran is a Hill Station located near Mumbai, Karjat.   It is located 800 meters above sea level in the Jambol Forest of Maharashtra.  It was found by Hugh Poynts Malet in May 1850.  It spreads over an area of 8 square kilometers in Sahyadri Mountains.  It is one of the best places to spend a two-day holiday if you are in Mumbai or in the vicinity of Mumbai or its suburbs.  To reach Matheran, you need to board a local train of central suburb in Mumbai and get down at Neral Station. The primary attraction of this beautiful holiday resort hill station is the mini train or the toy train.  This toy train is available just outside the Neral Station and goes uphill the mountains and takes about 2 hours or so (distance of 20 km) to reach the hill station.  In case you do not have a booking  [...]

Hiring & Insuring a Car Abroad

Hiring & Insuring a Car Abroad
People travelling overseas, should consider insuring a car abroad. The first thing to be done is to find out from the current insurer if the prevailing cover takes care of foreign travels. If the cover is limited to the home country only, an extension can be requested. It should be noted that the extended cover will be for thirty consecutive days only. When considering being overseas for more than ninety days in a given year, this will not be a valid option. This restriction applies to European car insurance that is provided by many insurers. Expatriates and people involved in international business can take expatriates’ car insurance that offers more flexibility and provides cover for a longer period of time. Before travelling overseas, it is good not to under or over insure. Travelling  [...]

Cycling in Holland: Tulips, Windmills and Lots of Bikes
Holland was never high on my travelling wish-list but when the opportunity to tag along with three serious cyclists came along I thought it would be remiss of me to turn down the opportunity, and my wife wholeheartedly agreed. I am sure my dearly-beloved was thinking of my slightly expanded waistline when she encouraged me to go and I think it was that same waistline that persuaded me to agree. Holland instantly conjures up a plethora ofarchetypal images for a lot of people and, leaving the seedier ones aside, many of the stereotypical associations are well-deserved. Over the course of our four-day cycling adventure we saw countless windmills, endless fields of glorious blooms, lots and lots of fellow cyclists and, thankfully for my legs, not a single hill! Ironically, despite there being  [...]

Fantastic Flying Fox in Rajasthan
Rajasthan is a beautiful travel destination and can be explored by train, bus, air, or even a camel, but adventure and thrilling travel can only be experienced in Rajasthan when you travel by zipping. A venture started by two Britishers for those who love adventure, the Flying Fox is a series of five cables crisscrossing a part of the acacia- covered Aravali range (at a billion years old, they are the world’s oldest mountains) behind the palace. When you try out the flying fox-India’s first zip line- at the Neemrana fort palace in Rajasthan, initially the heights will make you dizzy, as you are not a bird or a plane. Imagine going downhill on a ski lift propelled by gravity only, without chairs. They strap a harness around your waist, clip the harness to the cable and away you  [...]
